Prostate Cancer Support for Men, by Men

by | Apr 19, 2017

It takes tremendous courage and strength to fight back against prostate cancer. If you’ve already undergone treatment, we know you possess an inner strength and determined resolve. Of course, at the end of the day, it’s worth bearing in mind that the strongest man is still just a man.

With that in mind, there is a simple reason our support groups work – we are stronger together.

There is only so much anyone can do on his own, but teaming up with fellow prostate cancer survivors is a source of additional strength when the load you carry feels overwhelmingly heavy. More than that, though, the Prostate Cancer Survivors Association of West Michigan gives you the opportunity to help others shoulder their load.

Now, whether it’s caused by nature or nurture, men don’t easily reach out for help. We will drive around for hours on end before we admit to being lost. We don’t call for the plumber until our own efforts to repair that leaky faucet have led to a flooded kitchen.

Something you may appreciate about our organization is that you don’t have to stop and ask for directions or call anyone to come into your home. Just show up to a meeting and we’re here for you. If you do want to call for more information—and there’s no harm in gathering information to make a logical decision, right?—we certainly encourage you to go ahead and we’ll answer any questions you might have.

There are many men who regularly attend our meetings and events. Why? Because they find value in the support offered by fellow men who know what they are going through. There’s an old Chinese proverb that says “To know the path ahead ask someone coming back.” Well, the Prostate Cancer Survivors Association of West Michigan is full of travelers who’ve been there and back, and we are all ready to share our experiences with you and learn from yours as well (if you are comfortable sharing).

Want to learn more about how we can help you? Call us at Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids at (616) 453-8300, or send an email to info@gcgr.org. If you’d prefer, please feel free to just come to any of our meetings or events. We look forward to seeing you.
